Tinley Park High School is a public high school in Tinley Park, Illinois, located approximately 30 miles southwest of Chicago. It is part of Bremen Community High School District 228, which includes Oak Forest High School, Hillcrest High School, and Bremen High School. Prior to the RCx project, the school was already performing above average in energy efficiency, with an Energy Star score of 74.
The core section of the school is conditioned by nine air handling units (AHUs), with three providing hot water heat only and the remaining six equipped with chilled water cooling. Two of these AHUs are variable air volume (VAV), while the rest operate on a constant volume (CV) basis. The school also has a fieldhouse, conditioned by three VAV rooftop units (RTUs), two of which serve the athletic area with gas-fired direct heat, while the third provides direct expansion (DX) cooling to the fieldhouse’s classrooms and offices. Destratification fans are present in the athletic area to improve heat distribution. The facility includes two 550 MBH hot water boilers and a 350-ton air-cooled chiller. Additionally, various split system units provide supplemental cooling but are not integrated into the building automation system (BAS).
